2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA “TOP 10 COOLEST NEW CARS UNDER $18,000”

Kbb.com Praises 40 MPG Elantra for Design, Fuel-Efficiency
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 06/27/2011
The 2011 Hyundai Elantra has been named one of the “Top 10 Coolest New Cars under $18,000” by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com. According to kbb.com experts, the Elantra was chosen on the basis of two criteria—being fun to drive and fun to own. Kbb.com praised the Elantra’s “all-around package of slick design, convenient features and fuel efficiency,” as well as the fact that “every Elantra gets 40 miles per gallon on the highway.”
The Elantra will be one of four Hyundai vehicles sold in 2011 that achieves the milestone 40 MPG highway fuel economy rating, along with the Accent, Sonata Hybrid and the Veloster. Elantra received a complete redesign for 2011, as well as an 18 percent bump in fuel efficiency over its predecessor.
“We’re honored that kbb.com recognized so many of the things about the Elantra that we baked into the recipe,” said Brandon Ramirez, manager, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “With standard 40 mpg highway fuel economy and terrific looks, as well as a wealth of advanced technological and safety features, the Elantra is definitely one of the coolest options in its segment.”
The 2011 Elantra excels in terms of design and fuel economy, but it also rises above the competition with a combination of advanced safety features, exceptional interior room equal to that of a midsize sedan and an all-new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. All of these features, plus Hyundai’s industry-leading standard warranty, amount to an exceptional vehicle that is also an exceptional value.
As kbb.com notes, “it takes some panache to be fuel efficient, affordable and great looking, and the 2011 Hyundai Elantra pulls it off in style.”
Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com, remarked of all the vehicles featured in the “Top 10 Coolest Cars under $18,000,” “There are great deals to be had on many new cars under $18,000, but only a handful of them really possess that cool, difficult-to-describe ‘it’ factor. Each year the competition keeps getting tougher in this affordable segment, with more personality-filled, amenity-laden, versatile vehicles entering the marketplace.”

HYUNDAI ELANTRA NAMED ‘BEST VALUE: PRICE TO PUMP’ BY CARS.COM

2011 Elantra wins the Under 20/Over 35 Shootout
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 06/13/2011
Hyundai’s all-new 2011 Elantra topped a list of five compact cars to win the Cars.com ‘Best Value: Price to Pump’ award.  Elantra was part of the Cars.com Under 20/Over 35 Shootout, joining four other compact cars that seat five, get better than 35 miles per gallon and have a price tag under $20,000. The 2011 Hyundai Elantra came out on top during the editor’s evaluations for its exterior and interior design as well as its smooth ride.
“Based on our results, every car shopper looking in this segment needs to put the 2011 Hyundai Elantra at the top of their consideration set,” said Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief, Cars.com. “Not only does this car get 40 mpg on the highway, the Elantra also has refined styling, solid handling, a comfortable interior and incredible affordability for all the features that buyers will get.”
To determine the winner of the shootout, experts from Cars.com, USA Today and a Chicago-area family put the contenders through a variety of tests over a series of three days.  Tests included a day-long drive to determine accurate, real-world mileage, back-to-back driving by all judges on the same course to determine handling and comfort, and a side-by-side comparison of the cars’ features and styling.
The 2011 Elantra sets the bar in the compact sedan category offering a “class-above” midsize car interior volume, modern design, outstanding fuel economy, and loads of comfort and convenience features, all at an attractive starting price. Elantra also continues to lead the industry in standard advanced safety technologies including a new Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system to optimally manage Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and the Motor-Driven electric Power Steering (MDPS).
“The all-new Elantra, with its 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway standard fuel economy rating, is a perfect vehicle for consumers looking for an affordable solution to rising gas prices,” said Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America.  “Winning the Cars.com Under 20/Over 35 Shootout against the traditional compact leaders shows that Elantra truly hits the mark in this competitive segment.”

Cars.com’s ‘Best Value: Price to Pump’ rankings:
1. Hyundai Elantra ($17,760)
2. Chevrolet Cruze ($19,445)
3. Honda Civic ($18,655)
4. Kia Forte ($18,345)
5. Ford Focus ($19,750)

A variety of features will be available at launch, including unique applications such as “Service Link” that helps drivers schedule service at their Hyundai dealer; an “Eco-Coach” that improves efficient driving; restaurant ratings; and remote door lock/unlock capabilities. Blue Link’s innovative features continue with remote vehicle start (late availability), which allows a driver to start their Hyundai vehicle so it can be warmed up or cooled down before driving; Geo-Fence, which can send a notification  if a driver has ventured outside prescribed borders or time constraints; and stolen vehicle slowdown to help police recover a stolen vehicle.
Drivers will not have to wait long for the arrival of Blue Link on Hyundai models as it will debut mid-June on the 2012 Sonata sedan. In addition, Hyundai will launch a second Blue Link-equipped, youth-oriented coupe model, the Veloster, which will be available this fall. Hyundai projects Blue Link to be available across the majority of the lineup by 2013.
“Blue Link combines safety, service and infotainment into a complete package that works to both help simplify Hyundai owners’ lives and reduce distracted driving,” said Barry Ratzlaff, director of customer satisfaction and service business development, Hyundai Motor America. “We’ve carefully studied how drivers rely on smart phones and navigation systems as an innovative link to the outside world. Blue Link brings that seamless connectivity directly into the car with technology like voice text messaging, POI web search download, turn-by-turn navigation, and monthly vehicle reporting. Our agent-assisted advanced voice recognition system offers a 21st century solution to performing POI searches in the vehicle.  This unique and innovative approach enables Hyundai to deliver fast, accurate searches and downloads of POIs to vehicles while allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
As part of the Blue Link launch, Hyundai will provide Blue Link features free of charge for a complimentary period.  This trial period includes 6 months of the core safety services from “Assurance”, three months of the convenience features from “Essentials” and three months of the point of interest search and navigation tools from “Guidance.”  If the customer elects for automatic renewal within 30 days of purchase, the complimentary period will be doubled for each of the packages; one year  of “Assurance” and 6 months of both “Essentials and Guidance.”  After the introductory period, owners of Blue Link-equipped vehicles can choose to extend their services.
Blue Link Assurance further expands Hyundai’s industry leadership formerly established by Hyundai Assurance, the industry’s most comprehensive suite of new-vehicle protection. Hyundai Assurance already offers a 5-year/60,000-mile fully transferable bumper-to-bumper warranty, Hyundai’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, 5-years complimentary Roadside Assistance.
In typical Hyundai fashion, Blue Link services were developed with targeted service options tailored to distinct telematics user groups:

Blue Link Assurance package
• Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and Assistance - Provides immediate assistance when an accident occurs and an airbag is deployed.  In this event, an ACN signal, containing customer and location information, will automatically be transmitted to the response center.  Upon receipt of the signal, a response specialist will attempt to establish voice communications with the vehicle occupants and forward any pertinent information to emergency services.
SOS Emergency Assistance - Customers request emergency 911 assistance by pressing the dedicated SOS button in the vehicle.  This action transmits vehicle information and location to specially-trained response specialists, who assist in coordinating the dispatch of appropriate emergency assistance to the customer.  The response specialist remains on the line with the customer until advised assistance has arrived.
• Enhanced Roadside Assistance - Enables customers to contact Roadside Assistance via a single in-vehicle button-press. Vehicle information (including location) is automatically transmitted to a response center, enabling the specialist to dispatch assistance more quickly and efficiently for vehicle assistance and retrieval.

This capability is only valid when the ignition is off, but the command can be saved by the engine ECU for later immobilization if the vehicle is on or in motion at the time of signal transmission.
• Panic Notification - Notifies customers when the panic button on their vehicle key fob has been activated, signifying when a family member or other vehicle occupant may be in danger.  Notifications are configured online and occur via email or text message.

HYUNDAI SONATA NAMED A BEST FAMILY CAR FOR 2011 BY PARENTS MAGAZINE AND EDMUNDS.COM

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 06/07/2011

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata was recognized as a Best Family Car for 2011 by Parents magazine and Edmunds.com in their annual list of family vehicles. The Best Family Cars of 2011 will appear in the July 2011 issue of Parents magazine which hits newsstands nationwide on June 14.
“For the cost of some compacts, the Hyundai Sonata offers a backseat that's big enough for adults and provides ample space for installing car seats without a struggle,” said Parents editors. “The advanced four-cylinder engine provides the best mileage of any car in its class -- as well as all the power you'll need to feel confident merging onto the highway. The 16.4-cubic-foot trunk can fit two full-size strollers plus other kid paraphernalia.”
Car experts from Parents and Edmunds.com scrutinized hundreds of vehicles focusing on safety and reliability as top priorities.  The list includes 15 top models – three each in Sedan, Budget, Crossover, Eco-Friendly and Large Car categories. Each car was judged on safety, performance, interior, exterior and family-friendly features. In addition to professional reviews, editors took into account feedback from parents who own and drive the vehicles every day.
“The Hyundai Sonata debuted with an innovative redesign for 2011 that is both parent and kid-friendly, making it a smart buy for families,” said Scott Margason, director of Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America.  “Sonata offers class-leading comfort with an EPA designated large volume interior, standard 35 mile-per-gallon highway fuel economy and advanced standard safety technologies making it the perfect midsize sedan choice for families this year.”
The 2011 Sonata represents a modern approach to the traditional midsize sedan segment by using only advanced four-cylinder engines, emotional design and luxury features offered with Hyundai’s strong value proposition.  The Sonata launched with a new Theta II 2.4-liter gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine and in-house six-speed automatic transmission.  The vehicle offers class-leading fuel economy of 22 mpg city/35 mpg highway and 198 horsepower standard. Both hybrid and turbo powertrains round out the Sonata lineup, offering a trio of high value options for consumers.

2012 Hyundai Veloster First Ride and Video

Our driver threads the white 2012 Hyundai Veloster through light midday traffic on the northbound Pacific Coast Highway. Traffic is a mix of Aston Martins, new Porsches and rental Mustang convertibles.
"The most important part has to be the way it drives," he says. "It has to be fun to drive. You can add the technology items afterward to any car."
Those were the priorities given to Hyundai's development team. First, it had to make the 2012 Hyundai Veloster fun to drive. If anyone knows this, it's this guy behind the wheel. He's John Krafcik, CEO and president of Hyundai Motor America.

HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REPORTS ITS BEST-EVER MAY

• Elantra and Sonata each top 20,000 monthly sales for the second month in a row
• Hyundai achieves 35.8 MPG average fuel economy
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 06/01/2011
Hyundai Motor America today announced all-time record May sales of 59,214 units, up 21 percent compared with the same record-breaking period last year. This marks the fifth consecutive month that Hyundai has set an all-time monthly sales record.  For the year, total sales are up 29 percent, with retail volume rising 40 percent.  Sales to fleet accounts represent 11 percent of the total sales year-to-date and just seven percent for the month of May.  Thirty-four percent of Hyundai vehicles sold in May achieved 40 MPG fuel economy ratings.
“May was another outstanding month for Hyundai,” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America’s executive vice president of national sales. “With high gas prices continuing to alter consumer behavior, car buyers are increasingly looking at Hyundai’s fuel-efficient line-up, with the all-new Accent, Elantra sedan, and Sonata Hybrid all delivering 40 miles per gallon, standard.”
“The launch this month of the Assurance Trade-In Value Guarantee program, which takes the uncertainty out of future resale value, is another important plank in our comprehensive strategy to improve consideration, increase consumer confidence and continue to elevate the Hyundai brand,” Zuchowski added.
“Consumer response to the Assurance Trade-In Value Guarantee program has been terrific – it’s already driving a much higher level of consideration and brand lift than our original Assurance job-loss program, and is a key factor in our on-going retail sales strength,” said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America’s president and CEO.  “While we’ve still got a lot of work to do, we’re getting good response to our consumer-driven Hyundai recipe -- Assurance programs like Trade-In Value Guarantee and America’s Best Warranty, industry-leading fuel economy, and the freshest designs in the industry.”
Genesis’ sustained growth trajectory continued with May representing the 23rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases for Hyundai’s first premium products.  Equus continues its strong launch, with sales and market share exceeding targeted levels.
While Hyundai sales were strong in all regions of the country, California was the brightest spot, with sales up 95 percent so far in 2011 versus last year.
